Fueled by the declining economy and deep-seated cravings for sweet tea and chocolate chip muffins, Toni Turbeville recently declared to the world, “I am a writer.” Okay, so mainly I’ve been fueled by an overwhelming abhorrence for gray cubicles, an irresistible adoration of the written word and the need to make some money to support my book habit. Then, of course, there’s the thrill of doing what you love. Previously, I’ve enjoyed a thriving career in the arts and public relations – the public relations manager for the Columbia Museum of Art, public relations director and box office and education manager for the South Carolina Philharmonic and the theatre manager (and a puppeteer) for the Columbia Marionette Theatre. I was listed on the South Carolina Arts Commission Forty Lists Project as "An Outstanding Arts Administrator or Staff Member" (March 2008). I’ve toyed with the idea of teaching, and enjoyed presenting science and nature programs at the South Carolina State Museum. There was a stint as a leather-clad, rock-and-roll booking agent and promoter with my best friend. We’ll skip the messy early years of waiting tables, bartending and other things my mother would like to forget. Now, I follow my creative dreams. I build and maintain Web sites for clients throughout the United States (Pennsylvania, Texas and more), design promotional materials for small-businesses, individuals and musicians, write copy, research and build mailing lists and more. (For a complete list, be sure to visit the "FOR HIRE" section.) I host and teach writing classes, helping others put their words on paper. I write short stories and poetry, and am finally working the novel that's been taunting me for years. I'm also working on photography and other art works, submitting to galleries such as Atlanta's Art House. Thousands of people do what they love everyday? If you're one of them, perhaps I can help. |
